AAFSC

The Arab American Family Support Center (AAFSC) empowers immigrants and refugees with the tools they need to successfully acclimate to the world around them and become active participants in their communities. We operationalize AAFSC’s mission by championing underserved individuals, including immigrants, by delivering culturally responsive services and uplifting community voices.

AAFSC opened it's new Atlantic Avenue Community Center location in Brooklyn, NY in 2022. Due to AAFSC's and our shared values, we were entrusted by them to lead the project's community engagement, design process and ensure the implementation of the space.

Our team led the community engagement process including intimate workshops with the organization's staff to understand their needs for the new space as well as the needs of their clients, many of whom have experienced trauma as former refugees and immigrants to this country. These sessions were invaluable in allowing us to have insight into the day-to-day interactions between AAFSC and their clients and how we as designers might help make those experiences better through thoughtfully designed spaces that are comforting and nurturing- spaces of care. The new space supports a variety of programs and events for the community.
