Community Arts Hub
From June 2023 to September 2024, we worked alongside Chhaya CDC, a local non-profit building the power, housing stability, and economic well-being of South Asian and Indo-Caribbean communities in New York City, and design-partner, Hive Public Space, to develop the Richmond Hill Community Arts Hub, a community-designed and multi-use installation.
The Hub celebrates Richmond Hill’s diverse heritage and supports community access to programming and events in the Park. Colors inspired by our neighbors’ homeland flags adorn this community stage for events, classes, and gatherings. This installation aims to activate the space, showcase local culture, engage residents, and promote long-term preservation of cultural identity in public spaces. This project was part of Urban Design Forum and the Association of Neighborhood Development’s Local Center initiative, a program to bring together neighborhood leaders, designers, and government agencies to realize local visions for public space.
