A couple from Ditmas Park, Brooklyn—who both work in advertising—had won a free two hour consult with Foz Design at a charity auction, during which they thought they’d simply “discuss pillows.” Far from it, as that meeting was the kick off to a full-scale contracted renovation project that had to reflect not just the eclectic personalities under its roof, but also the neighborhood they’d come to call home.

Ditmas Park, well known for its Victorian architecture, complete with front and back yards, has become inhabited by an increasingly multi-cultural demographic. Similarly , we were able to come up with solutions that beautifully blended a variety of design genres, both inside and out.

On the exterior, forms were kept traditional while finishes including paint and window trims were changed to give the architecture a more modern twist. Leading out to the patio and backyard is a new set of French doors that were added in the dining room, allowing for more natural light to enter the home.

On the inside, styles such as Mid-century modern flow seamlessly with touches of ethnic elements as well as bright splashes of color and engaging print and pattern. The basement, previously only used for storage and laundry, was turned into a rec room for their two sons, allowing for a more formal living room upstairs. And the entire project was topped off by selecting the pillows that sparked our working relationship more than a year ago.
